Thomas McDermott, Jr. calls for delay of Election Day to June 2nd

Election Day is currently set for May 5th. As that date approaches, we are all faced with the changes in daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of both voters and election workers has to be the most important factor as our state leaders consider what to do about Election Day.

I believe in an American Democracy that makes voting open and accessible to as many people as possible.

For that reason, I am urging Secretary of State Lawson and the Indiana Election Commission to move Election Day at least thirty days to early June. This will allow poll workers and voters to have faith that making a choice to exercise their right to vote will not at the same time be risking their health and safety.

Moving Election Day is not an easy decision to make, but it is the right one at this time in our history. It is the right decision to make for the health and safety of all Hoosiers.
