After just receiving an endorsement to be Northwest Indiana’s next Congressman from the 40,000-member-strong NWI Building & Construction Trades, I am overwhelmed to receive yet another endorsement, this time from the Portage Firefighters.
I learned early on as mayor that public safety is one of the most basic building blocks of any city. I’ve spent my 16 years as mayor making sure that our first responders are paid well, including pay raises that total more than 40% over my tenure, that they are well-equipped, including the construction of new fire stations, and I am proud to say that I have never had to lay off one firefighter or police officer.
I’m proud of my commitment to firefighters, and I’m ready to take my experience to Washington DC so that on a national stage I can support all the courageous first responders across Northwest Indiana.
Thank you to the Portage Firefighters for your strong endorsement. I promise that if elected to be your next Congressman, I won’t let you down.
